Sovereignty Starts at Home

An essay on the power of growing your own

The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are.

"The Archetypes and The Collective Unconscious" – Carl Jung

It struck me this morning as I was eating corn that grew literally 10 meters from my house.

Yes, this simple act of consuming something so intimately connected to the land I inhabit sparked a profound reflection on sovereignty—a concept I had been contemplating for a while. At Más Allá, we are growing more and more food directly from the land, and this practice has inspired me to share some thoughts on sovereignty.

Living in the 21st century, it's hard not to become increasingly aware of the fragility of our modern world. Food, in particular, stands out as an incredible lever, a universal need—everyone who stays alive eats.

At Más Allá, we believe in the importance of healthy food produced through ecologically sound and sustainable methods. This belief is not just about feeding ourselves; it’s about cultivating a deeper connection with the earth.

Working the earth and planting seeds is an experience that transcends words. It is an ancestral practice that teaches us so much, grounding us in the same soil that sustained our ancestors.

Growing our food does more than nourish our bodies; it nourishes our community. The yield we produce provides us with a significant margin, making it easier to support active and contributing community members. Suddenly, the cost of having someone else living and working with us is offset by the food we produce, creating more sustainability and a more self-sufficient ecosystem.

Sovereignty is one of the pillars of Más Allá. We believe in leading by example, showcasing a way of life that counters the city-centric, disconnected existence that has become so prevalent. Our stance is that much of humanity has strayed far from a harmonious relationship with the earth, and we aim to recalibrate this balance. We believe in preaching through action; it’s our most authentic path. Though we may be a small drop in the vast ocean, our actions speak volumes. By living out our values, we set a tangible example of what it means to align with our ideology and inspire others to do the same.

In a world that seems increasingly unstable, our commitment to sovereignty is both a personal and collective mission.

By growing our own food and living in harmony with the land, we are not only securing our own well-being but also demonstrating a path forward for others.

We invite you to join us in this journey—whether by sharing your thoughts, engaging with our community, or visiting us to experience the beauty and power of sovereignty firsthand. Let's reconnect with the earth together and create a more resilient future.
