Building Community Consciously
Co-creating greater life for all.
Most days, for the past many years, I have been expanding on this prayer for my life:
I pray to serve all and harm none.
Bless all creation to serve the highest good;
Bless all thought to serve the highest good;
Bless all matter to serve the highest good;
Bless all beings to serve the highest good;
Bless all humanity to serve the highest good;
Bless all students to serve the highest good;
Bless all teachers to serve the highest good;
Bless all my relations to serve the highest good.
Live to serve the highest good;
Love to serve the highest good;
Work to serve the highest good;
Play to serve the highest good;
Rest to serve the highest good;
Rejuvenate to serve the highest good.
Think thoughts to serve the highest good;
Take action to serve the highest good;
Evolve beliefs, habits, routines, skills, & relationships to serve the highest good;
Learn to serve the highest good;
Teach to serve the highest good;
Succeed to serve the highest good.
Communicate clearly with compassion for the highest good.
Build community consciously, co-creating greater life for all.
Being conscious of building the foundation.

Fundamentally, human beings are living. The purpose of this process of living can be observed through infinite potential lenses. One such lens is seeing other as a reflection and extension of oneself. Through this lens, the logical action is essentially to serve all. Through service to others, we build a foundation for the whole of humanity to thrive in unity – for all is respected to be interconnected and whole. Through this lens, we can see that humanity and nature are also one – all living beings exist in relation. As such, I find deeper meaning in life is inevitably found through building community consciously.
Some observe a meta-crisis worth resolving. There appears to be an existential threat of humanity habitually behaving antithetically to the thriving of our own natural systems. The status quo of socioeconomic systems appears to be obviously dysfunctional, often forcefully subsidizing unsustainable energy grids and generating increasingly poor social determinants of health. My perception is that cultural inertia has been leading an increasing number of young people to become debt slaves without ever learning a foundation of even basic life skills, an increasing mass of water to become polluted, a majority of soil to be degenerated of vitality. How might we respond proactively by leveraging the power of building community consciously?
When an idea spreads in community, great transformation can happen through remarkably efficient and spontaneous waves. Pyramids can self-organize. Inventions can materialize that enable massive energy exchanges. Space travel can become a reality both mentally and physically. One generation experiences one reality, the next generation experiences a quantum leap. Nothing that I am aware of in human history has ever been created without the foundation of community. No human being has ever grown in a vacuum. All human beings, and all solutions that we need in order to thrive are built on community.
Designing from pattern to detail.
What does this look like day-to-day? It may seem dull and unexciting on the surface. It looks like expressing our deepest vulnerabilities and needs. All human needs can be met through accepting responsibility to communicate. We are each born with the capacity to communicate by any means necessary. This story gets a bit more exciting when we can be aware that some people have more advanced skills than others in oral communication, some in physical communication, some in telepathic communication, some through singing and others through dancing. Human beings rely on a diverse set of communication skills in order to build the foundation for thriving individually and collectively.
When I say thriving, I am referring to having our deepest needs met. To have our deepest needs met, we must be vulnerable to express our deepest needs. I find that there are 4 dimensions of collective wellbeing, which weave together to create safe space for our deepest needs to be revealed and met: communicating, playing, creating, and connecting. When I’m reflecting on the subject of building community consciously, I feel vulnerable because I need to acknowledge I am as much a beginner and student as anyone else. Would you be willing to be with me on this transformational learning journey?
What I am advocating for is not theoretical, it is a highly practical set of life skills – with a worldview that is whole – it is Integrative Organizing. Building community consciously is a dance that requires proficiency with a diverse set of skills from a diverse network of people cooperating on purpose. Community is the prerequisite for all human activity. Building community consciously, as far as I’m concerned, is a matter of cooperatively creating profitable social enterprises fit for purpose – for we need a container that can hold the water. Systems function as they are designed to function, and we have the capacity to design systems with extraordinary resilience with Integrative Organizing.
In response to my mission to build community consciously, I am blessed with the opportunity to play Integrative Organizing Facilitator and Circle Lead roles at Más Allá. Our purpose is to create a hub for purpose driven leaders to thrive in connecting with the land and one another.
